Addon Installation Instructions

Hello everyone! Thanks to everyone who supported the development. We are still in early stages but we're at the point where almost all of our initial features are working. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, feedback, or feature requests. Also, I would love to see any samples of work you create with these tools!

Network Setup

1. Make sure your phone and computer are connected to the same network,

2. Find your local IP address and make a note of it

(for instructions: https://www.whatismybrowser.com/detect/what-is-my-local-ip-addressit is usually a variation of 192.168.x.x or 10.0.0.xxx but this may be different for you)

3. In the VP Tools app click the menu button in the top right corner and navigate to Network Settings,

4. Enter the IP address from step 2,

5. You can leave the port set at 9001.
6. Press save and your device should now be ready to connect the Blender!
Please note the Scene Scale Multiplier and Motion Smooth Amount features are not fully implemented yet, but they will be soon. You will receive an email detailing these features when they are ready.

About the main UI: The left slider controls the cameras Focal Length, the right slider controls focus distance. The background displays a stream of the Blender viewport in eevee (work in progress!)

Blender

1. Install the addon and navigate to the UI,
2. You can leave Local IP and Port at the default settings.

3. The record button toggles the recording of keyframes - this must be toggled before the next step if you with to record keyframes.
To begin recording keyframes you must start the timeline first, then begin your camera motion. Make sure to set your frame length pretty high! Keyframes will record over themselves when the timeline restarts.
4. Now click Create Virtual Production Camera, This will create a new camera in your scene which will automatically connect the the iOS App.

5. Now use Camera Offset to position the camera in the scene.

6. If you open the VP Tools app on your phone, you should see the camera begin to move!
START SERVER will begin streaming the blender viewport to the app - although, this feature is currently unstable so be careful with it!

I recommend testing these steps with a very simple scene first. If you make any changes to Network or Record settings - make the changes first and then click Create Virtual Camera again.

Conclusion

There's lot of little fixes and improvements to make. But we wanted to give you folks the chance to test out what we've got so far! We are working on making setup and workflow easier and more streamlined. You will continue to receives updates as these improvements are implemented, and documentation for any new features.

Thanks again, everyone! Please feel free to reach out about anything - I'm also available for video or phone call. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Enjoy!
